Green Schools
21 April 2016
To all families:
As you are aware we are working towards our 4th Green Flag which is on the theme of travel. We are currently focusing on Year 1 of our Travel Action Plan.
As the weather is improving it’s easy for us to travel to and from school in a greener way. We are encouraging you to join in the fun. Here are a number of suggestions of ways in which you can travel in a green way:
Active Schools Week is being held nationally next week from 25th April – 29th April. There will be many activities held in the school to encourage us all to get active. We are encouraging you to join us and get active when travelling to and from school. Each week we are going to monitor how we travel to school.
We are taking part in 2 initiatives from the Green Schools programme.

- Walk to School Week: This will be held from 16th -20th May where students from all over Ireland will show their support for a greener, healthier environment. We encourage everyone to walk to school where possible. The Wednesday of that week is our national WOW day (walk on Wednesday) which you are invited to take part in. There will be activities held in both classrooms during that week to raise awareness about the benefits of walking to school.
- Green Schools Bike Week: A provisional date of 13th -20th June has been set for this. More details for this event will follow at a later date.
