Over the past few weeks the children looked at the importance of the media and how it can influence their choices. The children are now aware of all the different forms of media and advertising.
The Junior Room had the pleasure of being taught by Finbarr who is a past pupil of St. Michael's N.S. Finbarr is studying primary teaching and got the opportunity to teach numerous lessons over the past few months in our classroom. His fun and enthusiastic approach to teaching captured the children's attention and they thoroughly enjoyed being taught by him. We wish Finbarr all the best in his teaching career.
The children learned the maths language of capacity: full, empty, holds more/less, full up to the top, nearly full, nearly empty. Throughout the week they got into groups to experiment with different plastic containers in the water trays. They use of the questions 'Which one holds more? Which one holds less? How many of these small ones does it take to fill the big one?' was used to enhance their understanding and reinforce their knowledge of capacity.
